Tell Me Your Story

Wed Jul 26, 2006, 12:47 PM
Those of you that know me on here probably know that I am an aspiring filmmaker. I have tons of ideas for scripts, and have made some a reality as far as putting them in print. I've been reading books on the craft of screenwriting and found lots of inspiration in unexpected places. Just this afternoon I had a great idea that I read in Scriptwriting for Dummies. Why not get stories from outside sources: friends or family,
or even total strangers?

I believe that everyone has stories in their lives, whether experienced firsthand or passed down, that they believe could make a great movie. I know I've got a few life experiences that have inspired me to write. For instance, my mom works at a license branch. From the stories she has told me, I've come up with an interesting idea for a film about it. It can be hard to finish such a thing though, so that one is definitely a work in progress.

So I'm asking anyone and everyone who has a story or an idea for a movie. It could be anything from an event that changed your life to a conversation you overheard, to a painting or picture that inspired you, ANYTHING. A lot of my own ideas were inspired by a single sentence or an image that passed in front of me in a split second. In some of my research I've discovered that many great films were based off of such things, be them long stories or small things that inspired great movies.

I've become a bit more motivated to finally do what I want; but, inspiration is always accepted. That being said, if I like your idea and use it, I WILL GIVE CREDIT WHERE CREDIT IS DUE. I KNOW in my heart that I am going to make movies someday, even if people doubt me. I am thankful for those that believe in me. Who knows? Your idea or story may inspire something that turns out to be a great movie. And I say again, you WILL be given credit.

I'm sure anyone who reads this will either ignore it, because of lack of interest or lack of confidence in their own story. Or, lack of confidence in me. I totally understand that, so I'm not expecting anything really. I just had the idea to reach out and see what reaches back...if nothing else, I love hearing just about any kind of story so even if it doesn't inspire me, I'd still love to hear it.

I wish I could do some kind of contest with prizes, but that seems inappropriate for this. I just want people to do it for themselves (and me, of course) and not just to win some sort of prize.

TO TELL ME YOUR STORY: You can do it any number of ways...you can comment on this journal entry, send a note, or even e-mail me. I would love it if people would make a journal entry about their story, so that it can inspire anybody. I really hope that people will reach out and tell me. I love people, and I love hearing about people. Even if you think your story is uninspiring, you'd be surprised what you might find when you tell it.... Thanks in advance to ANYONE who responds to this. If you know someone who has a great story, send them here as well. I can't wait to see if anyone responds!

on a sidenote....anyone who has a license branch story to tell, please do! It may go with my current project, BMV.

If you're into short psychological thrillers, I've written 2 short stories with that theme. you can read them on my page. I'd be honored for my stories to be turned into a movie.

It was called "Oh Africa, Brave Africa." It was...a laugh riot.

I have this idea for a story that's based on something that happened to me a couple of years ago but I'd rather e-mail it to you, so I'll do that, kay?

Hi Ash,
I have this idea for a book I want to write, although I think that it could be much better displayed through visual images (aka movie). I'd love to tell you the details, if you have messenger or so we could talk. I am pretty sure you'll like the idea... and guess what? as a photographer, I also am very much into 60 photos per second photography, aka movies! :-)

I'm glad you have an idea! Just e-mail it to me because I don't have any kind of messenger since this isn't my computer. Can't wait to hear it ;) My e-mail link is on my main page.

umm... it is a kind of back-and-forth thing to like "sell" you the story. Concept is pretty much travelling and seeing the big things and the little things in this world and the "little" people you meat, in reality being the biggest of stars and that rock their own world. Pretty much based on experiences while i travelled and so on.

well, theres always everything about my sister. nuff said.

i went to wisconsin for a two day music festivle. FRONT ROW CENTER FOR PRIMUS MOTHER FUCKER!
sorry, i'm just very excited. but the lips concert was amazing.i wish you could have been there so you could have seen it. just that would have inspired you.

i've been thinking a lot about how there are some band that people either love or hate, there is no in between. but what is it about that music that makes poeple love or hate it. was there some sort of event in their life that joins them all? and what is it. is it totaly irrelivent? like, everyone that likes this certain band at one point in their life ran over a snail with their big wheel?

and what you can determine about people just by looking at their shoes. there are so many things that i could do with that. i wanted to somethime, just sit outside of somesort of event and make a tally of how many poeple are wearing what type of shoes.

i hope any of this helps
