Overall Vision Originality Technique ImpactThis is a great shot - if I could give it 6 stars for impact, I would. Your statement about how sad this picture is is spot on - while I don't have any real idea what its like to have a loved one deployed in the armed services, this certainly helps convey the loneliness, sadness, and separation inherent to having people you care about separated by large distances and infrequent communication.
Technically, I really like composition of this picture. The softer focus on the dog tag, at least for me, lends a more human element to them - reminding us that the soldiers defending the country are very human folks, just like us.
